USO Hawaii Grand Re-Opening Celebration Blessing

Kahu Silva Performs Blessing for USO Hawaii

On February 4th, 2013, the USO Hawaii celebrated their 72nd birthday with a “The Grand Re-Opening of USO’ Hawaii’s Honolulu Airport Center.” The occasion began with Kahu Silva and USO staff members uniting in the spirit of aloha and sharing their energy in a sacred Hawaiian pi kai ritual to ho`omaika`i (bless) the facility. Highlighting the formal Grand Reopening program of events were Kahu’s inspirational Hawaiian pule (prayer) message and his traditional greeting of guests with an ancient “oli aloha” ceremonial chant in the spirit of the islands. The celebration culminated with the customary unraveling the maile lei by Kahu and participating dignitaries. In accordance with Hawaiian cultural protocol, Kahu ceremonially concluded the festivities for the day with a mele komo (invitational chant) to honorifically welcome those in attendance to E komo mai – come in and enjoy the island style hospitality and the comforts of the newly blessed Hawaii USO Center.
